Making Money Online Part I

I keep getting all these questions about how to make money online. Well to tell you the truth if I had to start all over again I would start by targeting a niche that I am passionate about and monetize it with AdSense – Yes Adsense. There is still a ton of money in Adsense regardless of what anyone says or what you hear. I know this is a fact. I bet you its probably easier and more profitable than ever right now. Google has implemented click fraud prevention, is still the top contexual advertising network serving very relevant ads and has added a couple of new features. I keep getting stories of how other people got their adsense accounts banned and even on Christmas Day which sucks but there are simple and effective ways to prevent your account from being banned.

1. The number one rule is this -never tell anyone (not even your family or friends or co-workers) about your sites or about AdSense.

2. Install Asrep or a similar click monitoring program to monitor your adsense clicks after you get a around $10 a day adsense earnings or even sooner if you told people about your sites with adsense. I know people who are already getting click frauded when their adsense earnings are just around $20 a day. No Joke. I highly recommend setting your Asrep to send you an email alert for 6 clicks in one hour with the same IP. Whenever you receive a click fraud alert, contact Google immediately that you have a click fraud monitor program and alert them of the suspicious activity and that you can provide the log if they require it. I have heard that Google does not reply to these emails sometime but they do take off the invalid clicks from your account and deduct the invalid earnings. Once you start hitting over $100 a day, I recommend getting another copy of asrep or installing it on a separate server because the logs and processing gets really big and hard to handle on a shared server. At our prime we were getting over 30K adsense clicks a day. At this level you should really think about getting a dedicated person or management service to monitor your account. Also you may be contacted by an Adsense representative who will try to “help” you. Try to stay in at least weekly contact with this Google adsense Representative and tell him all your sites and where you get your traffic from. Also tell him your goals with your sites and adsense.

3. NEVER log into your Adsense account on a PC that you do not own and never log in when you are not at your “home” ip. The home ip is the address you created the account on and where you usually check your stats. NEVER log in when you are at work.

4. DO not create another Adsense account. DO not create a LLC or company just to get another adsense account. Having multiple adsense accounts just gives you a FALSE sense of security. Google knows everything you are doing and can tie accounts together in a click of a button. If they link 1 account to click fraud, ALL of your accounts will be disabled. Regardless of whether or not they are owned and operated by different corporations or individuals.

5. Read the TOS and keep up to date with the changes.

6. If you are new to Adsense, the best adsense ads to use are 336×280 box ads near the Top- Left of your sites with the colors blended to match your site.  You can try other ad types but I found that these box ads have the highest CTRs and brought in about 40% of the total adsense revenue.

7. In order to really make it big with adsense you need a lot of pages in your site. Your site also needs to be themed and all of the pages need to be optimized for adsense revenue (high ctr was what we focused on). In the beginning it was very easy to get top search rankings for almost any keyword and theme. It is tougher now but can still be done.

8. Theming was key for our sites because they make your visitors “stick” and read multiple pages and subsequently click on multiple ads. It also helps for them to add to favorites for future browsing and research and of course more revenue. A simple left menu with navigation to all the top themes of our site and sometimes display of sub topic is what we find to be the most effective. Ads on the right and on the bottom get very low ctrs and are best for CPM ads to maximize for revenue.

9. When buying domains, spend the extra cash to make them private. Host them on a shared servers so that whenever someone does a reverse ip check they see a bunch of shared sites and most of them will not be yours. This will prevent haters from seeing all your sites. I highly recommend Hostgator for your server hosting. At the “baby” level it’s just $7.95 and currently a coupon code “snowman” will give you 20% off. This server package can be used to host all your sites – it allows for unlimited domain names. I think it’s a real bargin.

 10. Never give up. Making money with adsense if the easiest monetization method open to almost everyone right now. If you do not learn how to make money with adsense, you’ll find the other methods to be even more difficult.

Stay tuned for part 2 .

Widget Bucks

Earn $$ with WidgetBucks!

I just joined this program today and haven’t
tested it out yet but it looks similar to chitika ad’s. A few bloggers say that
they are getting up to $6 eCPM with these ads. I’m going to put them on a few of
my sites to see how well they do right now. The signup took less than 60
seconds. The only payment option I see right now is with paypal. Signup now and
receive $25 bucks here.

**Update**

So far I just put up 160×600 banners on a few of my site on the left side. I’m quite happy with the earnings so far. I’m getting just under 30 cents per click on my US traffic sites which is pretty good. The ctr is a bit low at 1% but this is actually better than YPN contextual ads. I’ll post up some screen shots in a bit.

I have also been testing out Adengage ads. It’s been up for about 2 weeks now and the results are not as good as Widgetbucks. The ecpc is about 4 cents! even though I put them on sites with 80-90% US traffic.

Motivation From Competition

Competition has a lot of negativity to it these days but it’s a key ingredient to your success. One of the reasons why my brother and I mastered adsense so fast and completely was because we competed against each other to see who could earn more in the early stages of our “make money with adsense game”. Our other competitors were the guys posting on forums and thier blogs on how much they made. We wanted to beat them. But along the way, it was mainly my twin and I in head to head competition.

Even though my twin and I are on the same team so to speak we are fiercely competitive against each other and feed off of each other’s acheivements. It was Henry who first started “banking” with adsense about 2 years ago. We both had accounts that were just sitting there earning pennies a month if any for the first few months. When we got our first checks we really played to win and competed against each other and fed off of each others achievements. One whole dollar a day to 10 to 100 to 1,000 bucks a day. All throughout the way, the key driving force or motivation was competition with each other. Sharing our breakthroughs with each other propelled both of us to new levels.

I see the same thing happening with affiliate marketing right now. My twin and I are in “fierce” competition with each other for the last month or so in trying to master the affiliate marketing game. We have both setup new accounts to our favorite affiliate networks which include: neverblueads, azoogleads, clickbank, hydramedia, maxbounty, copeac. And are basically “going at it.” My strategy is going narrow in focus while Henry’s is going very board. So far, I am beating him but he is a quick learner and will adjust fast. Also its real early in the game and Henry’s profit margins are better.

Traffic Spike

I took a look at the alexa ranking and awstats for this site. This site has an average of about 500 visitors a day but yesterday there was an extra surge of visitors. I think this site has momentum and potential to make some money. Here are some pictures of the traffic stats.

Affiliate Marketing

I have been really trying to hit up affiliate marketing these last few weeks as well as working on some guides. Affiliate marketing was actually the first system I used to make money online but it never took off in terms of scaling it up to where we wanted it to be. We never took it seriously because making money with adsense was a lot easier. We put up ads on our sites and our visitors decided to click on it or not. We did not have to worry about “getting the sale” and did not have this feeling of “forcing” these offers and products onto our users. We tried many affiliate networks but most of them cater to US and Canada. So we can only push them on a few of our sites. We have also been experimenting on making better landing pages with interactivity to get users to click on the offers themselves. Most of these affiliate networks now have conversion tracking which helps this trail and error process. But this is really tedious and a lot of motivation helps. I know for a fact that top affiliates can make up to $5000 a day easily. After these few weeks we have seen just how much more profitable affiliate marketing is compared to placing adsense on a site. It does require more trail and errors though.

Adsense Alternatives

We want to thank John Chow and his readers for their interest and support. We just really wanted to get the message of not depending solely on one source of income/revenue, and this view can go towards your day job too.

Here is a list of AdSense alternatives we have been using from roughly June 20 to July 10 with some screenshots. We have found out that the income is no where close to where adsense can bring in for the types of sites we have built mainly because the traffic is international – many ad networks don’t like this. We have already killed off two of our servers to get $1,400 off our backs and cancelled a few projects.

Adbrite: pulling roughly 200 a day. Payout is 2 months though and are in checks.
YPN: 0 to 30 dollars a day – very careful about putting this on any sites right now. Have to make sure they are all US traffic.
Valueclick: about 200 a day from this as well.

Bidvitiser: Tried it for only 1 day. Seems too bootleg. Got 14 cents off it for about 100K impressions.
Kontera Ads: Ok so far but need to manually approve all the sites.
Text Link ads: Have some approved sites but no buyers so far.

Affiliate sales through Azoogleads, clickbank, NeverBlueAds, HydraMedia, MaxBounty, and CJ – pulls in about 1-1.5K a month.

For these ad networks, with some tweaking they may be able to produce better results. Yes, it was just plain stupid and a rookie move to depend solely on google AdSense. But we made companies, hardly told anyone what our sites were, and had multiple adsense accounts and that gave us some (false) sense of security.

Compare all those with a day on adsense with just one account, This was the last time i logged in and took a screenshot. It is not earnings for one hour (1am). adsense is always delayed 3 hours so there was 2 more hours left for that day. I also am blocking some info for respect.

Life After Adsense Ban

Its been a few weeks since the banning and the suicidal thoughts and depression has gone away. Running outside and being more grateful has helped. The banning really wasn’t about the money. The thing that hurts is the loss of the ability to make money through adsense. It was just soo DAMN easy to make money off adsense. I have been putting more money into high dividend yielding stocks giving 7 to 15% ytd. Look at FDG, AINV, and CSE to get an idea of those kind of stocks. Many think that they are risky but I think these are really really safe stocks and gets you in the correct mindset of seeing a positive cashflow from the get go from your investments. Unlike 90% of people who have the mindset of hoping to get a return. The dividends go to “riskier” high yielding stocks that give yields of 10+++. I have even re-subscribed to Motley Fools subscriptions again and two of those stocks are actually mentioned and picked in a subscription. We have also been looking into real estate. Flipping is not cool and just does not fit in the way we think. Newly constructed Townhouse Pre-forclosures and auctions look like good opportunities to get property to produce positive cashflow from the renters. Been reading ABC’s of real estate investing again and it just makes me want to stick with websites. Then again, real estate is physical and is REAL. Just take a look at the recent movie – “Live Free or Die Hard”, everything that you think is real (401K, savings account, debts, stocks, etc) is just a number on a server. A man really only has his brain, health, and real estate. Eh but what do I know. As for the site, it has been redirected back to richtwinpoortwin.com – back to our roots and original site name.
